Club Canino Eje Cafetero
National Show Saturday, October 15, 2005
The Club Canino Eje
Cafetero dog show held under Colombian Kennel Club
and FCI rules was being held in a beautiful new
spacious 'Centro de Exposicions' 'Expofuture' park
and convention center a short distance from downtown
Pereira. We arrived on the grounds and entered a
large well lit exhibition hall that could easily
accommodate 3 times the entry that the club received.
The shows held in a smaller cities such as Pereira
do not receive as high an entry as shows in the
larger Colombian cities such as Bogota. We were
immediately impressed with the work and effort that
had gone into decorating the building, especially
the ring area. The large rings were surrounded by
planters filled with magnificent local flowers including
my favorite, the Heliconia Pendular, with it's very
large and colorful hanging flower. The outline of
the rings were marked by small banners of the show
sponsor Sabueso feeds. There was also a large indoor
grooming area for the exhibitors to protect them
from the elements, even though the weather in this
temperate area was especially warm and sunny. The
committee led by Club President Jose Mesa had out
done themselves.
The show had entries
in all 10 FCI groups and judging duties would be
shared by ourselves and Colombian judge Carlos Solano
D'Archardi from Bogota. The National Anthems were
played and the show continued in a well run manner
throughout the day. Judge Wendy Paquette selected
as Best In Show the Fila Brasileiro, Ch. L'Napoleao
Do Caudilho, reserve was the Basset Hound, Ch. I
Lake Park Collen and Best Puppy was the Smooth Fox
Terrier Isabel De La Gran Aldea.
